  Elevation Gain:  Less than 1000 M each day

   

  This is a multi-day event starting Tuesday.  We have booked campsites at Cottonwood Provincial Park and there are motels to overnight in Pincher Creek.  Please make your own accommodation arrangements. If camping there is the river and the reservoir to cool down in after rides and there are showers at the Castleview Provincial Campground on the hill above Cottonwood. The rides will be different every day. The current schedule has us riding around the reservoir from the campground on Tuesday starting at 2 PM. This a a great ride of about 60 Km, minimal traffic, rolling terrain and great views of the mountains and plains. The following days have various options such as Twin Butte/Waterton, Hill Spring, Beauvais Lake and Beaver Mines/Castle Mtn. 

  We will meet at Cottonwood PP our sites are B-45 & B-47. There is visitor parking at the entrance to the campground. Meals are loosely organized and usually done informally, based on interest levels.

  We go south on Priddis Valley Rd, traversing a quiet tree lined ridge, left onto Plummers, cross the 22 and traverse another ridge south.  We then climb past a small lake and the site of Ty's Cabin (Heartland).  Another climb gets us to Leighton Art Centre for lunch. (Picnic tables, pink chairs, and a view of the Rockies.) No food available, bring your own.
  

  On the return we have some long descents, then back across 22, along Plummers, north on 240 ST. with a side trip to the pavement end on Coal Mine Rd.  Back to 240 ST. and north to our start.

  Join us for an unforgettable Imperial Century Fondo starting at the hamlet of Madden, just north of Calgary. Our journey begins with a northeast ride towards Carstairs but to town. From there, we continue west & south through the rolling countryside towards Cremona and a chance to refuel at the country store. We continue west & south to Water Valley where we can grab a quick snack before the home stretch to Madden. We’ve chosen this route in late July, when the landscape is painted in brilliant gold by endless fields of blooming canola—a breathtaking backdrop for an epic day on the bike.

  Description:

  This is a weekly ride from Rocky Ridge YMCA to Cochrane, focused on riding in a group and hill training (aka Cochrane hill). 

  Typically we ride the same route every week only with small variations. As the summer gets underway, we get stronger and our pace gets faster. 

  Parking spot is the Shame Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge. Meet in the NW corner of the parking lot, 15 minutes prior to the ride start.

  • This long ride follows the scenic Bow Valley along the Legacy Trail, highway 1A and the scenic Moraine Lake Road.  While the roads are open to vehicles, the speed limits are low.

  • Park on our driveway in Canmore at 1018 Rundleview Drive: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nGo3CUxHUuiXGQBC7

  • This is a no-drop ride, but there won't be a sweep.  Riders should be comfortable riding in a tight paceline so that we stay together.  This double century should not be your first paceline ride.

  • Safety considerations: this road is open to cars, campers and tourists which are probably more of a hazard then the bears that frequent these meadows.

  • This is a high mountain road, plan for changing weather and bring layers.

  • Cell coverage is not available for much of this route.

  Adding another club tradition to the 2025 cycling season, it's the 4th annual Hayride Fondo event. Enjoy stunning rides meandering alongside the expansive fields of hay bales and catching glimpses of the distant mountains.

  Routes range from 35 km to a challenging Imperial Century of 100 miles/162 km, with several options in between. Multiple rides will be offered of different distances, difficulty levels and speeds.

  We will ride west to the "Old Road to Nepal." Near the top we go left and climb some more to the Leighton Art Center, where we break for lunch.
  

  The view from the top, baring clouds or smoke, is amazing! There is an art museum/store, and we will take time for some browsing if anyone is interested.

  
  

  There no food available at Leighton, so plan to bring your lunch.  Also, this is the only washroom along the route.

  We return by dropping down a long steep road that very briefly joins the New Road to Nepal, then we go by a loop to the south and back to the start. (RWGPS Route Map below.)

  Notes:

  • Because some our route is on roads with narrow or no shoulder a bright flashing tail light is recommended.
  • Climbing gears and descending skills will be useful. (See elev. profile below.)

  Directions : Highway 2 north to exit 368 into Innisfail, turn right at stop sign go to big green sign that say Sylvan lake turn right thru traffic circle continue North  then turn left onto Memorial Trail, turn right at the Canso gas station  which is Lake way BLVD to play ground sign, turn left into  parking lot  bathrooms at the end of parking lot.

  This is a weekly ride in Springbank, focused on scenic routes, hill training, and intervals where we crank up the intensity.

  This shorter ride turns around at Marysville with a stop at the Timber Hitch Coffee Shop. You can also check out Marysville Falls a few blocks further down the road. 

  This ride starts at Moir Park and follows the paved pathway on the old railway right of way before returning the same way. If you decide to shorten the ride, please inform your coordinator. (We get it! There's a fondo tomorrow.)
