By Don Hollingshead, GT Event Coordinator
Riders enjoyed a warm and relatively wind free 2025 edition of the Golden Triangle (GT), May 24-26. New friendships formed as riders met potential riding companions and got to know each other over 3 days. While mostly Calgary based, club members from Edmonton, Winnipeg, Regina and Vancouver joined us Friday morning in a chilly Lake Louise overflow parking lot to start the event.
Cresting the Great Divide, fresh snow glistening on Stanley Glacier turned to raging white water in the Kootenay River Friday afternoon. Oceans of dandelions greeted cyclists on Saturday’s ride along the Columbia River and North America’s longest contiguous wetlands. The engineering marvels of the highway expansion in Kicking Horse Canyon were evident, especially the wide new asphalt shoulders—such a contrast to the narrow, winding, shoulderless, steep grades of a decade ago.
A giant shout out to the volunteers who made the event run smoothly.
- Liz Jamieson has been the overall food coordinator now for at least 10 years. Liz has done her part for the event and has retired.

Kira came from Vancouver, Richard from Edmonton, Todd from Drayton Valley and Ken from Red Deer to volunteer. Mike provided the lists of spare parts (that were provided by Bow Cycle on credit) and made himself available over the weekend to consult on mechanical issues if needed. Eileen lead Yoga sessions for the riders each afternoon. Lynda gave up her weekend to be on call as a volunteer for the weekend if needed.
Also a shout-out to Heidi Schwab who provides a place for the EVCC to store the equipment for the GT.
