This is a ride from the forestry trunk road, through Devil's Gap, along Lake Minnewanka, and into Banff. It is about 50 km on gravel road, singletrack, and pavement. A lot of the route is rough singletrack. This is a one-way trip. It is not an out-and-back or loop. There are no shortcuts.

Register now to show interest. Later in the summer we'll see what kind of transportation we need: friends; or transportation company. We'll bus up the forestry trunk road north of Cochrane and ride west.

The portion of the trail beside the lake is closed to bikes from mid July to mid September. The lake and canal water level is usually low in September. That makes getting through Devil's Gap easier.

About the first 15 km of the route is gravel road. The bulk of the remainder is a single-track following the lakeshore. There are few hills, but lots of roots and rocks. Some sections have a slide-slope. See https://www.trailforks.com/trails/minnewanka for a description.

See http://headwaysystems.com/MinnewankaHistory.htm for past trips. See http://headwaysystems.com/galleryserverpro/default.aspx?aid=70 for pictures of the 2023 event.

No e-bikes. We need to be able to carry our bikes in places on this route. Also, according to https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/ab/banff/activ/cyclisme-biking/veloselectriques-ebikes ebikes and pedal-assist bikes are not permitted on the Minnewanka trail.
