Intermediate and Advanced cyclists 2-3 hr 15-25km ish

Here is your chance to try it for the first time and/or get some coaching. We'll spend an hour in a coached session then go for a ski. I've never brought back anyone broken and I have gotten people hooked.

Nordic Skiing is defined as the lite, fast and race side of cross country skiing. This is the definition by the governing bodies and used by clubs, some online definitions are not accurate. Nordic can be Classic or Skate technique. A great winter activity for Intermediate and Advanced riders. Regular cross country gear won't work for Nordic technique, poles are too short, wax pocket is in the wrong place etc. You can rent there or Calgary at Norseman, Lifesport etc. Ask for Nordic race or high performance skis. Waxless or wax. More places rent cross country gear than nordic, make sure you get the right stuff.

For this trip we'll meet at the daylodge far end at 10 ready to ski. Arrive by 930, especially if you are waxing. I'll be available for waxing advice. All skis should be glide waxed prior. We'll ski about 2.5 hr then eat in the lodge. Chocolate, mmm.

Here are a few clues about what is Nordic. Analagous to Road biking, Cross country is more like mountain biking. Track set only, stretchy clothes (no snowmobile suits), hip pack or small hydration pack to carry the minimum ( some hot water, a snack, and a bit of wax), Nordic race or performance skis less than 50mm width, poles with a separate thumb loop on the strap and a small half basket, gloves or lobster mitts. Mitts restrict poling, gloves better. One (merino) base layer and a softshell is all you need (and I'm cold blooded).  Hardshell jackets don't work well, too warm and restrict movement. We'll be toasty warm coming out of the lodge and moving right away so no extra layers required.
